About Weekly Driving Lessons

SOS Driver Training instructors highly recommend that our learners take weekly driving lessons to build their skills and confidence consistently. The most common lesson formats we offer are either 90-minute sessions or 2-hour sessions, typically taken once a week. These longer lessons allow learners to cover more material, reinforce good driving habits, and develop the practical skills needed to pass the driving test efficiently.

Our expert instructors will guide you through every stage of learning, from the absolute basics such as understanding vehicle controls and basic manoeuvres, to mastering more advanced skills like parallel parking, navigating roundabouts, and driving in varied traffic conditions. We aim to make every lesson comprehensive, ensuring that you not only pass your test but also become a confident and responsible driver for life.

For added flexibility, we offer the option to book lessons once or twice per week. This allows you to spread your driving course over a timetable that suits your personal schedule, whether you have work, school, or other commitments. Many learners find that more frequent lessons, such as twice a week, can accelerate their learning process and help them reach test readiness sooner.

At SOS Driver Training, we pride ourselves on offering a supportive, friendly, and professional learning environment. Our instructors are dedicated to helping you learn at your own pace, tailoring each lesson to your unique needs. Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone who needs a refresher course, we’re here to help you become a safe and skilled driver in the quickest and most effective way possible.

We proudly serve learners across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, and North London, delivering top-quality driving lessons in your local area.

About Weekly Driving Lessons

What is the process when I make contact to enquire booking a lesson?

Once one of our team members has spoken to you or replied to your message via text, WhatsApp, Email or on the contact enquiry form, we will allocate one of our SOS instructors to contact you by phone or text to follow up your enquiry. This is known as a pupil lead.

They will touch base and introduce themselves, discuss their earliest availability and inform their hourly rates and packages including block booking discounts. If you are interested in booking with them or would like to ask some questions, please feel free to do so.  Our instructors do not try to hard sell or pressure you to book a lesson. They are friendly and approachable.

When do I pay for my lessons?

You can pay for your driving lessons a couple of different ways. Ideally our instructors take payment upfront before your lesson at least 24 hours or if agreed on the day of your first lesson. You will have an initial conversion with your allocated instructor. who will discuss with you their preferred way of payment . Most of the time, you’ll be paying via bank transfer to your instructor.  Cash is accepted. No cheques. If you would  prefer to pay for your lessons upfront to the company, simply give us a call on 0800 488 0817 or 07926 943702

What do I need before my first lesson?

You will need a Provisional Driving Licence. This will need to be shown to your instructor on your first lesson. Keep it safe because you will need it for both the theory & practical Driving Tests. You will also need to be able to read a car number plate at 20.5 metres

When can I take my driving lessons?

Here at SOS Driver Training, all of our instructors are self-employed. This allows our instructors to work the hours that suit them. The times in which you can take your driving lessons vary – some of our driving instructors start as early as 6.30am, and others do not finish till 10pm.

How often should I take lessons?

Most pupils will have one lesson a week, but that is not essential. They can be tailored to whatever suits you best.

Are Driving Lessons 1 or 2 hours long?

Most of our driving instructors deliver 2 hour lessons. They believe that it is more beneficial than 1 hour for a variety of reasons including reduced learning time overall, approximately triples the learning period in any given time, allows retention of information due to more time to practice and allowing for a greater geographical area to be covered in lessons to maximise exposure to a variety of traffic situations. In conclusion taking a 2 hour lesson is a good way to build your driving skill & knowledge over time & can be more cost-effective than taking shorter lessons. Ultimately, we understand your individual circumstances, learning style & preferences.

On the flipside, our instructors find a lot of learners make mistakes in the final 20 minutes of their lesson. so they have found that a 1.5 hour lesson strikes the balance between making sure significant progress is made, and their is not too much mental fatigue , helping to keep driver errors down & confidence up.

Do you offer intensive driving/crash courses?

Unfortunately we don’t . We recommend taking a more tailored approach to driving lessons based on your individual requirements.

Long daily sessions can affect concentration and learning intake. An intensive course, as the name suggests, is very intense and not suited to all learners.

We offer semi intensive lessons which tends to tailor for pupils finding a practical test at short notice. However we don’t accept a short notice test within 7 days

What car will I be learning in?

Our SOS Driver Training instructors all use different cars, However, they are all fitted with dual controls, with some cars fitted with front & rear dash cams. All driving tuition vehicles are fully suitable for teaching.

How many lessons will I need?

It’s difficult to say how many lessons you will need to get up to test standard, as everybody learns differently. As a guideline, DVSA statistics say the average pupil takes 47 hours of professional driving lessons , and 20 hours private practice

What is your cancellation policy?

Of course some times you may need to cancel a lesson, we understand that. All we ask is you give us at least 24 hours notice, anything less than that and you will be charged for the lesson.
